Manuscript editing and proofreading services, for any genre, including full-length novels, novellas and short stories.

 

The first 1,000 words edited/proofread free of charge.This will help me, as the editor, to get a feel for the author's style and will also help both parties make a final decision regardging the project and whether they wish to go ahead.

All suggestions are made under advisement. In the end, it is up to the author to decide if they wish to make the alterations to the final manuscript.

An exception will be made for short stories less than 1,000 words. A sample of the manuscript, including a portion of dialogue, can be sent to my email. The above conditions apply.

As the editor, I retain the right to decline any submitted project.

There is a possibility of paying installments. However, please note, no finished work will be returned until full payment is received and verified.

EDITING

​

This is a more detailed process, including checking the text for accuracy, repetition, formatting and style. This is usually done before proofreading and is the final step in the editorial process.

Copy editing usually has three levels: light, medium and heavy, depending on budget and scheduling of publication.

 

I will check for spelling, punctuation and correct usage of grammatical symbols, along with reviewing special elements like tables, charts, formatting footnotes and endnotes.

 

Please note, I will check formatting, but do not offer formatting, such as ebook or paperback conversions, as I would prefer to leave this in more capable hands.

 

Substantive editing, also known as content editing, is the editing of material, including its structure and organization. In this type of editing, internal inconsistencies and discrepancies are dealt with. Substantive editing oftentimes can require heavy editing or rewriting as compared to mechanical editing.

 

Pricing will reflect the work involved.

• Basic editing, such as checking sentence structure: £7 per 1,000 words ($10 per 1,000 words)

• Medium editing, including formatting elements: £8 per 1,000 words ($11 per 1,000 words)

• Heavy editing, including rewrites: £9 per 1,000 words ($13 per 1,000 words)

 

PROOFREADING

This is checking spelling, grammar and other obvious errors within the text. This is normally done after editing.

• £6 per 1,000 words ($8 per 1,000 words)

 

Please note, I have rounded up the conversions for pounds into dollars to make it easier for my own calculations and final payments.
